A painter, lithographer, and etcher of considerable poetic sensitivity and imagination, Odilon Redon was a leader of the Symbolist movement in France.

These delightful heliogravures were produced in Paris in 1925.

Each plate has a second image on the reverse side.

Unless otherwise stated, all plates are in very good condition for their age, with clean images, and some age discolouring around the edges (which are not seen when framed).

In the early part of the 20th century, héliogravure was the method of choice for reproductions appearing in high quality books. Heliogravure belongs to the same family of intaglio printing techniques as engraving, etching and aquatint. As such, it requires an especially good quality of thick paper, one that can draw out the ink from the furthest recesses of the etched copper.
